Missions Outreach

Caring for the needy and those struggling to meet their basic life needs is an important aspect of the ministry of Good Shepherd. Every weekend we receive non-perishable food items which are picked up and used or distributed at the SunCoast Community Center. We focus a great deal of our effort into this area of our community just south of the Del Prado Extension. We will collect funds to help families receive school supplies, donate candy for their fall festival, and collect food items for baskets for Thanksgiving and Easter.

Church members volunteer with a number of other community service organizations in North Fort Myers. Weekly, volunteers serve hot food and distribute food bags at the Lee County Veterans Outreach Center at All Soul’s Episcopal Church. Weekly, Volunteers help sort and prepare food that arrives at the Harry Chapin Food Bank. Seasonally we collect needed hygiene, bug spray, snacks, and batteries for the Lee County Coalition for the Homeless. 30 volunteers tutor reading and math weekly at the Littleton Elementary School. Since we started our “Rockin’ Readers Program” Littleton’s school performance scores have elevated. There are many other agencies which benefit from the deep volunteer spirit and caring hearts of our church members as we serve throughout the community in various Thrift Stores, food distributions and Senior Service referral agencies.
